MOUTH ULCER

“Mukha Paka”

Mouth Ulcers are the painful open oval / round sores, which are commonly found inside the lips, inner part of the cheeks, under the tongue or on the soft palate. The first sign of the sore may be a tingling, burning sensation inside the mouth. They can occur either single or in clusters and are usually white or yellow in colour, surrounded by red halos. They are also known as ‘aphthous ulcers’. When the condition of Ulcers becomes very severe, the affected person cannot drink or eat anything. This condition is called as Stomatitis or Mukha Paka.

According to “Ayurveda” Mouth Ulcers are described under “Mukha Paka” and are caused due to vitiation of Pitta Dosha (pitta governs the digestive and hormonal systems).

A mouth ulcer cannot be passed from person to person. For example, you will not get a mouth ulcer by sharing drinking glasses and cutlery with someone who has one.

Generally, mouth ulcers occur due to stomach related problems i.e. Indigestion / Constipation but, other following factors may also responsible for Mouth Ulcers:



• Deficiency of Vitamin B Complex and folic acid.

• Excessive intake of acidic or spicy food.

• Viral infections.
• Poor dental hygiene.
• Biting of cheeks or lips.
• Tobacco




Ayurvedic Medicine

Mix honey 2 ml + 500 mg of purified borax (Tankana Bhasma) and apply to the lesion of mouth ulcer, thrice a day. It cures any type of mouth ulcer within 1-2 days.

Home Remedy

Chew about 4-5 leaves of holy basil (TULSI) leaves, three times a day. It helps to cure mouth ulcers and prevent bad smell from the mouth.

Mix 7 parts of sugar candy (mishri) with 1 part of camphor and apply on ulcers.

Make some paste of Amla (Emblica Officinalis) and apply on the ulcers, 2 to 3 times a day.

Mix honey and coconut milk and apply on the ulcers, 2 to 3 times a day.
